Notes: About the first part of the song... At first I had it translated as "a deserted station/mountain of bicycles/a billboard" however...I paused once I got to "terminal". Since the song seems to describe a ride back home through Chiba, wouldn't then the first few lines describe a ride on the monorail? (Especially given how Tarou has recalled more than once that particular memory of his hometown.) Empty stations, bicycles in huge piles beside those stations, billboards, people crowding in with their dripping umbrellas...all of that until the terminal, the last station. No?
1. the word used, 'mujineki', implies a bit more than a station that's simply empty. Imagine rather, a station with not a soul in it, not even staff.
2. maybe you've noticed how in the lyric booklet the word preceding 'inu' has been blocked out with black squares? It's a case of japanese censorship: while the word 'bikko' (lame, crippled) is not a curse in itself, it has a particularily offensive connotation.
