Notes: (1) Literally, it's something like 'Instinct boils over' but the English equivalent to that is when your 'instinct kicks in'.
(2)The original English in the lyrics is singular but I added an 's' to 'faces' to be grammatically correct.
(3)Play on words here a bit with 'nopperabouzu'. It can be a combination of two words 'nopperabou' meaning a featureless being, usually a mythical creature that has a completely smooth face and 'bouzu', a word that can mean someone with essentially a crew cut hairdo, usually a boy. Then again, it can be 'nopperabou' + the suffix 'bouzu'. In which case 'bouzu' is being used as a derogatory suffix meant to express feelings of scorn or ridicule. I opted for the latter in my translation.
(4)'Ai no zanryou' literally means 'a certain quantity of love' or 'the remaining amount of love'. However the word 'zanryou' in Japanese while signifying a certain amount is neutral. That is to say, it is not meant to mean there is a lot of love nor is it meant to mean there isn't much. It is simply, an amount of it. A quantity. Sadly if you say 'a one way ticket to the love that remains' in English it kind of has a negative meaning, as though there really isn't much love there. So in order to keep the neutrality, I omitted 'zanryou' and opted simply for 'one way ticket to love'.

Notes: (1) Ariadne is a woman from Greek mythology. She was thought to be both the bride of Dionysus and the lover of Theseus. There are some stories of her being a goddess figure, her name is derived from a Cretan-Greek work that means to be 'utterly pure'. According to the myth, she aided Theseus in overcoming the Minotaur in his labyrinth by providing him with a sword and a ball of red fleece that she was spinning. Some say she ran off with Theseus after only to be killed by Artemis for running out on her husband, the god Dionysus. Others say she died in childbirth, left by Theseus on some shore during a storm while he was swept away at sea. Yet again, there is another story that says Theseus used her then left her. She was then consoled by Dionysus, god of wine and madness and they lived happily together. The latter version has been depicted in Ovid's poetry as well as in a painting entitled 'Ariadne' by Waterhouse.

(2)Ok this bit was amusing. 'ura urara rara' You can see it as simple singing like 'oola~ oolala~ la la~' or because of the kanji used for 'Urara' is actually a woman's name it can be something like 'Oh~ Urara~ rara~' as though singing the woman's name playfully. Or there is the third possibility. 'Urara' also can mean 'beautiful', 'glorious' or 'serene'. So another possibility for the line could be something like 'Oh~ you are so glorious~ lala~'. It loses it's playfulness a little when put it in English so I'm offering a variety of possibilities here along with the one I used.
(3)'Chu' is the sound effect for a kiss in Japanese. So instead of translating it as 'kiss' again or something like 'smooch' I decided to leave it as is. Mostly because Sakurai wrote it in English, not Japanese.

Notes: (1) Toshusai Sharaku was an Edo era painter who was active during a one year period. In that time he completed 144 portraits, mainly of kabuki actors. Virtually nothing is known of the real man. His life is shrouded in mystery. The name 'Sharaku' itself is a pseudonym. Interesting though that it translates as 'Reflection of pleasure' considering the subject of his paintings. Also in the context of the song the use of the name is rather amusing. There is much speculation about the life of Sharaku, some even believe that the painter was in fact a Noh actor who used 'Sharaku' as his nom de plume. Others believe Sharaku was really an art dealer who sold his own work. The main point is however that he is known as a mysterious painter. After that one year where his work was known he essentially disappeared and there were no traces of his work again.
Also of note, his work began mainly as only portraits of the face where the emphasis was entirely placed on facial expression. Some adored this, others found the contorted faces displaying emotion to be grotesque. Later his work suddenly changed to full bodied portraits with small faces, much more toned down. While the poses were theatrical, they weren't nearly as emotive as before. Some speculate that perhaps these were the works of copycats and not of Sharaku himself.

(2) Just a little note about the difference between 'ai wo choudai' and 'ai wo kudasai'. Technically they both mean the same thing, literally: 'give me love please'. However, 'choudai' is very much a familiar more feminine way of saying it. Basically...I wouldn't recommend asking something of a stranger using 'choudai'. *laughs* It's...more intimate and almost childish in some ways. 'Kudasai' conversely is the more general way of saying 'please'. I'm noting this because well...these things amuse me and also, there are two 'you's in the song. 'Omae' and 'Anata'. I've explained this before but for the first timers, the latter is a much more familiar way of addressing someone as opposed to the former. So with the variations on 'please' and 'you', you can safely imagine two voices in the song. A man and a woman.
